People used a mail truck to escape the flooded areas of New Orleans

  • Great collection of pictures.

It's a shame those people have to go through what they are going through right now. I hope there is an investigation into this whole ordeal and President Bush is jailed.

Everyone knew those levees could only handle a category 3 type Hurricane and this was known to be a category 5 storm like a week before it actually hit- Deffinately the most evil red neck racist president in American history.

Hardcore George Bush fans, open your eyes and stop being ignorant. This guy has screwed up so many times and now it's cost thousands of people their lives. How can he fight the war on terror when he can't even protect his own American citizens on US soil? Instead of saying, "Oh, the left hates the president no matter what". Try reading something besides Fox news and you might actually learn something.

  • for your information there are soldiers down in the gulf helping out. just because they aren't army or marines doesn't mean there isn't anyone down there. My husband is in the navy and is on call to help his other shipmates that are there already, so stop assuming things you know nothing about.....

  • oh yeah, and if you're going to put anyone in jail it might as well be mother nature because she is the ONLY one that controls the weather.....not the president.

  • I agree with you totally anonymous . But you know how people are they have to play the blame game . Why cant people just see this was an act of God. And was in no - ones control . And as far as the levee goes..even with what little warning they got they could have in no way gotten that prepared in time. And even if the levee didnt break this wouldnt have stopped the flooding , Louisiana was below sea level.
Im sorry you have to be away from your husband right now , but Im sure that everyone will be greatful for him putting his LIFE on the line to help save people like netskrill and Kyia.
    God Bless

  • I live in south louisiana and have experienced several hurricanes, this Katrina however was the most powerful storm the U.S. has ever seen. People need to stop pointing fingers and put the money where their mouth is. We need HELP not BLAME. No one could have stopped this thing, nor could have even the President gotten all those poor people out of N.O. Anyway, there is still over 10,000 people still there who just will not leave. Is Bush going to be at fault when they all die of cancer and hepatitis?

  • " Dont HATE, DONATE!!! United WE Stand, DIVIDED We Fall....."

Did't Hitler tell his people and soldiers the same thing?

Don't question anything the president does, well, because he's the president, and he's gotta be right.

    morons......

  • Well if they didn't take the mail truck they could still be lying on the ground. The only difference being they would be dead.

  • The pictures are great but it is so sad to see what is happening to all of those people.I don't see how they're surviving there, but somehow they're doing it. I think that this isn't entirely a ricial issue, but that has a lot to do with it. If you notice something the majority of the people still stranded in New Orleans are BLACK. The government is NOT doing anything to help. If anything they're trying to kill them with excuses because they said that they were not going to do anymore food drops to the ones stranded on the roofs of schools, houses, and other buildings. That lets me know that the government has it in for black people and this is basically just an EXTERMINATION!!!!!

  • just a few rants from what i read on here. first and foremost, the person that said, ' If Bush haven't have got chosen to be president we would not be in this situation now.' this has to be the most retarded thing i've heard. i guess mr. gore could have blown the hurricane away, or he could have flown in on his broom and saved everyone. wake up people. it's really hard to evacuate approximately 1 million people. think about it, one million people to leave that area, whether before or after, it's still a terribly big task. this tragedy has been very difficult. i don't blame anyone. i would blame myself if i had been in new orleans and didn't evacuate before though. i have friends and family there and i called and made sure they got out before sunday. also, whoever thinks there is a racial overture or anything like that should be kicked in the mouth for stating that. opinions are opinions, but when they can drive a wedge between cultures, it's best to keep that ignorance to yourself. anyway, i think i'm done. and remember when you point a finger, you have three more pointing to you to show that you can help

  • I love the idiots that believe the left thinks that it is Bush's fault we had a hurricane. It's like no matter how bad he fucks up and how many thousands of people lose their lives because of him, they still defend him. Wake up!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:53 PM

  • So, Bush now controls the weather? Pretty powerful guy. And I bet he caused this storm to punish all those poor people in New Orleans. Do people really beleive this kind of garbage? As far as the levees in New Orleans, they have been there a long time, during many presidents' tenure, not just Bush. I'm sure Bush had more to worry about, before the storm, than those levees.

  • Okay now this picture I don't agree with. Don't treat these guys like they are the rapist in the superdome because they used a mail truck to get to safe land. I'm sure it was their last resort. I'm sure they had no intentions on just stealing a mail truck for joy riding. They are only face down on the concrete because their black.

  • they are not on the ground just because they r black. If u think about it.. ur the one being rasit now.i dont understand why people always have to make everything about race.ITS JUST STUPID

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10:36 AM

  • That's fucked up how they treated eveybody, knowone should have went through that,by the way I was one of those people in the superdome.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2:05 PM

  • to everyone (esp. the anonymous person who said:

they are not on the ground just because they r black. If u think about it.. ur the one being rasit now.i dont understand why people always have to make everything about race.ITS JUST STUPID)

there's no way to know if this horrible act portrayed in these photos was "about race". and, frankly, that shouldn't matter.

they are human beings, mostly black human beings, and that is an unavoidable truth.

you may say it is not about race—but if some of the victims feel like they were left unprotected or left to die by a country because they are a historically oppressed minority—then those feelings are valid. it's about race to a lot of people, so it's about race.

this country has gone far too long with no resolution to the terrible cruelties and apartheid of our past, and to continue our legacy of denial would destroy what America should stand for, it would destroy what Christians should stand for, what democracy was built for.

We have to do the patriotic thing—investigate: why this happened, why so many black people were stranded.

    we cannot brush this off.

i question the bush administration not because i'm a "crazy liberal," but because i am a citizen of a democracy, and my government should work for the people.

  • oh, and please grow up and stop posting anonymously.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:33 PM

  • It is just sad, that all our my people went through this and nothing has chnaged in the USA since Slavery times. Still the same old racist and seperatist society that we live in.....

Now it is just more class hatred than race per say but the same things are taking place. It is just crazy. I shed tears everytime i see the images.

  • I was there as a LA Deputy, Do not believe this crap. Thugs were stealing Postal Vehicles to open the mail and taking checks out of them. If they were using them to escape then why were the only filled with healthy young black males with other peoples SS checks in their pockets. Where were the rest of their families.Oh! i guess you are going to tell me they were on their way to get their families. Yea! right, West bound on the interstate heading towards Baton Rouge.
LA Deputy Sheriff I was there.

  • I am from New Orleans, and I have something to say to all the people who obviously don't get it.....so,dig the wax out of your ears and listen! First of all,no one is blaming Bush for the fact that we were hit by a hurricane...duh....fucking,duh....what kind of a idiotic statement is that? We blame Bush because he not only left thousands of people to suffer and die in 98-100 degree ,New Orleans summer heat for five days, but he denied us government funding for coastal erosion repair, one of the primary reasons that those levees breeched and were over-topped by water. The natural wetlands, marshes, and spillways that would normally help shield us from storm surges and rising water are being destroyed by land developement, pollution, the effects of the depletion of the O-zone layer, and erosion.....he was well aware of this and of the potential danger posed to Louisiana(New Orleans,in general)should a substantial storm(above a cat.1)threaten to hit New Orleans....and he knew that Katrina was definately one of those storms,in fact,it was the storm...he knew!He did not care! Considering all of the things that I've just told you and the billions of other fuck-ups that are ,rightfully, credited to him....do you think that maybe he deserves some of the blame....just a little,huh....YOU JACKASSES!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:22 AM

  • We were also lied to by the Army Corp of Engineers about the technological stability of the levees,in the first place.....they were supposed to be built to withstand a category 3 hurricane's impact....watch Spike Lee's,When the Levees Broke if you want a taste of the real story about how those levees were built....he nor most of the people in the documentary are authorities on the subject, but at least 98% of what these people have to say is true. Besides, the personal stories are real,gut-wrenching depictions of what happened, and how a overwhelming majority of New Orleans(and Louisiana)residents, black and white, poor and rich, feel about this hurricane Katrina ordeal.....some of you really need to open your hearts and your minds! I've even heard people blaming the victims of hurricane Katrina for not evacuating or for choosing to live in the city, knowing of it's vulnerability to huricane threats. that just boggles my mind! okay, some people chose not to evacuate, some could'nt evacuate, but does that mean that they deserved to be abandoned by their government....that they did'nt deserve the same response that is given to other countries when they are hit by a tidal wave,or Florida when it is hit by a hurricane! You just never hear people say those things about them! Florida gets hit by a hurricane almost every year.....people still choose to live there, they still come back and rebuild after they are hit by a hurricane! Why did my friends,my family,my loved ones,my neighbors,my people deserve to die! I would really like someone to explain it to me,if you can!

  • I have herd many opinions on this page. Some of them outrages me the way you people are defending bush. Yes bush with a small (lower case) b, becasue that is exactly what he is, a small person. First of all: No he is not mother nature and he can not fly in on a broom and save the day. But he definitely could have done a hell of a lot more for the people of america to whom he have sworn by the way, to protect and serve and assist them as needed after the storm.

#1... He have our damn troops off in Iraq fighting for oil and democracy, trying to protect them, and we are right here under his pointed nose in need of protection our selves. But of course he dont care about that because we arn't putting money in his pockets, the oil is.

#2... Knowing that there was a problem with the security of the levees and that the storm was headed to New Orleans, and there just might be a possiblilty that they would broke, and thus ended in a terrible disaster, bush should have staid his ass put instead of going on vacation!!! But again, his fishing rod, and tennis balls are far more important than our black asses!!!! Aint that a bitch!! Yes I said it, Some one had to. All of you fools (Anonymous)sitting up in here defending him, I cant believe you all. And my guess is, you same people who are defending him are the same ones who cant stand the sunlight.

#3...Yes evacuating 1 million people is a terribly big task. But So what, He is the damn president he could do anything he wants to obviously. Just to enlighted you, So is a war that cost 50 billion dollars that our tax money is paying for,but he managed to get that done, why not save a few lives.

#4...I totally agree with catrina from ca.

#5...Last but not lease, to all yall folks who think that it is not a race issue...this question should shut you up....

..If this same ordeal occurred in the high class majority areas of Beverly Hills, where white judges, lawyers, doctors, and congressmen lived, would we even be having this conversation????....

    ----No Way----

The answer is NO, Any one who says otherwise is lying to themselves or just totally clueless.

?How is that for the truth?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 8:43 AM

  • bush is full of shit and something needs to be done about him.

I just don't understand after everything that he has done, how did we the voting people of america still allow him to be in office. Remember we do have the power in our hands, we the people if we take a stand, have the power to vote him out. We at least have the power to protest and have the senate do their job and vote him out.

All president clinton did was have his nature natured, wow thats a damn shame, the man just had his dick sucked and they impeached him.
    But bush...
    1. Allowed buildings to be blown up.

    2. Allowed security breaches at airports that caused the death of thousands, and the distruction of the world trade centers.

    3. Allow thousands of men and women to die in this war by Sending our troops to fight with a country for their own oil, disquised as diplomacy for our security.

    4. Allowing the victims of katrina to suffer, allowing the deaths of many to occur, not being there, not doing his job, not, not, not, not, not.... and I can go down the line.

Why IS HE STILL HERE. THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

  • All of yall need to chill try helping the people if u kno Goerge Bush wont .i don't think its a racial problem alot of BLACK people live in louisiana so of course the majority of them are black.if u have a problem deal with it, stop fighting.
